Project data is where you upload updated survey files, add processes to edit the data, and store additional documents. There are three different data types you can add. Data that is in rows and columns are added as data tables, executable files are stored as new processes, and documents that are not in CSV or SAV format can be added as new documents.

Data tables

Data displayed in rows and columns are added as data tables in Protobi.

To create a new data table press the blue "New data table" button. You will be prompted to name the table, and upload a CSV or SAV file.

Most projects will have a data table named "main" by default. Initially, the table has the file that you first uploaded when you created the project. Uploading a new file into an existing data table will overwrite the old file.

What does "Primary" mean?

Next to Admin within a table or data process you can make it the project's Primary source of data. The Primary source is where the project will get its data from.

Update a data table

If a data table is the projects "Primary" file, then simply upload a new file into that table and your project will be updated.

Drag the new data file to the "Upload" box, or press the box and select a file from the system dialog. This will overwrite the old file and update your project with the new data.

Processes

Executable files are stored as new processes in Protobi. To create a new process press the green "New process" button. Press "Edit/run" and enter your code.

Set the process to "Primary" to see the results of your code reflected in the project.

As an example we used a simple code that assigns a wave value to each row of data.

Update data processes

If the project has a data process set to "Primary", you have to re-run the process each time you update the data table with a new file. Open the process table, and then press the "Edit/Run" button to get to the code view page.

Press the grey "Run" button at the top of the code page. Once complete, a green success notification will appear in the upper right.

Documents

The grey "New document" button lets you upload files of any format. It can be used like a Dropbox for storing images used in your survey, PPTX template files etc.

When you create a project, please include the survey questionnaire as a document. We find it can be useful to organize all of a project's documents in one central place.

All users with admin access to the project can view and download these documents.

Download data

You can download data from any of the three different data types. Notice for processes and data tables you can download the file in different formats. New documents can only be downloaded in its original format (seen above).
