The **Scenarios** button allows you to save the current filters as a named scenario, so it is easy to return to it for analysis.

For example:

-   different specialties
-   different waves
-   combinations of different elements (e.g., country = US + specialty = IM/GP)

By using scenarios, you can quickly change your current filter without leaving the tab that you are currently working on.

When you select a saved scenario it is applied to your current filters just as if you had pressed on element values to drill in. It does not affect the baseline scenario.

If your goal is to completely limit your analysis to a certain subset, in both the current and baseline scenarios, use [Global filters](/view-access/global-filters) rather the Scenarios button.

## Creating scenarios

You can add the current filter to the list of saved scenarios by selecting "Set current filters as new scenario."

Note that all current filters selected will be added to your new scenario option. If a different scenario is currently in place, those filters will also be part of the new scenario.

## Complex filter editing

You can also edit the "$scenario" element should you want to enter your custom MongoDB syntax.  You can add a new element on the "+" sign to the right of the tabs, and type "$scenario" to display the hidden element.  You can then edit the JSON object "recode" to add new scenario filter entries.
