Open-ended questions can be time-consuming when it comes to analyzing the verbatim responses.

Protobi has a few features to simplify the process of coding text verbatims:

But if you don't have the time to do it yourself, Protobi offers expert text verbatim coding as an add-on service for any Protobi project.

### Pricing

The price of this service ranges between .30 - .45 cents per verbatim response. For instance, if you want to request coding for one open-end question with 400 responses expect a quote between $120 - $180.

### What is included?

The results include a code frame where all values are mapped to broad codes and detailed codes. Our expert coding service will typically provide up to 4 broad codes and up to 12 detailed codes. You will be able to view the coding results in Protobi and Excel format.

## Request a quote

To request a quote you can select the element, press the advanced button on the toolbar, and choose "Request expert text verbatim coding."

If your survey has multiple open-end questions, you can put all the elements into one request. First, create a new tab by pressing the "+" sign. You will be asked to name the new tab. Below, we named the tab "coding request," but you can label it however you like.

The next step is to [clone](https://help.protobi.com/editaccess/copy#Clone-2) the elements you want to include in the request into the new tab. You can then select the group, press the advanced button and choose "Request expert text verbatim coding."

Once you press "Request expert text verbatim coding," it'll take you to a page with the request form:

**Project:** The project name is listed.

**Element**: The element you selected for expert coding is listed.

**Delivery date**: Fill in a date to give the expert an idea of your timeline. Typically, we recommend requests for expert coding be submitted a week prior to the date you need it by. If you have a short turnaround time, email [support@protobi.com](mailto:support@protobi.com) after submitting the request. We'll try to accommodate you.

**Special instructions**: Include any specific instructions that you have. If you know how you want the coding to be done, try to be as detailed as possible. Otherwise, you can leave this section blank. The coding expert will review the responses and create an initial code frame based on their own analysis.

## Initial work session

After you submit your request, the expert begins analyzing the responses and creating a code frame. The frame represents how the codes will be structured and organized.

The purpose of the initial work session is to review the code frame with the expert via screen share. Schedule the initial work session at [protobi.com/calendar](//protobi.com/calendar). Choose a time that is a day or two out from when you made the request.

During the initial screen share session, the expert will review the broad codes of the frame with you. This gives you an opportunity to provide feedback early on in the coding process. Based on the discussion, the expert can continue creating the appropriate detailed codes.

## Final review

After all the coding has been completed, you will be notified and asked to schedule a final screen share session. During the work session, the expert will review the results of coding with you. They will go through their analysis of the responses, and point out key insights from the data. If you find that the work needs additional revisions, the expert will make the changes and you can schedule subsequent work sessions.
