# Glossary & Definitions for Protobi AI This reference guide defines key terms and concepts related to Protobi tools supported by AI such as **Protobi AI Autocode** and the **Protobi AI Helper**. Use this page to familiarize yourself with the terminology used throughout the platform. --- ## Protobi AI Autocode Terms ### Open-End Response A survey answer where respondents type a free-text reply rather than selecting from predefined options. Open-ends are rich in qualitative insight but require coding to be analyzed systematically. ### Coding Open-Ends The process of categorizing free-text responses into structured groups or themes so they can be counted, compared, and analyzed quantitatively. ### Codeframe/Codeset The complete set of categories (codes) used to classify open-end responses. A codeframe defines the structure of your coding scheme. ### Code A single category within a codeframe. Each code represents a theme or topic found in the open-end responses (e.g., "Price," "Quality," "Customer Service"). ### Code Description A definition assigned to a code that explains what the category means. Descriptions help document the codeframe and make it easier to share results with clients or stakeholders. ### Assignment The act of assigning a code to a specific response. A response can be tagged with one or more codes. ### Autocode The Protobi AI feature that automatically analyzes open-end responses and applies codes using AI. It can create new codeframes, complete partial ones, apply existing codes, or generate descriptions. --- ## Autocode Options ### Create (author) Create a brand-new categorization from the given text responses ### Create (detailed) (author_detailed) Same as create, but produces more, finer categories. ### Create (granular) (author_granular) Same as create, but produces the most specific categories. ### Augment (augment) Complete and apply an existing partial categorization means it keeps the existing scheme intact; add new categories only where new ideas are found. ### Augment (detailed) (augment_detailed) Augment with finer granularity. ### Augment (granular) (augment_granular) Augment with very specific categories. ### Apply (apply) Apply the existing scheme to new responses without inventing categories. ### Describe (abstract) Infer/refresh category labels and descriptions from an existing scheme. ### Evaluate assignments (assignment) AI re-codes responses using the existing coding scheme and compares the results against current assignments. ### Validate Per-response, per-code true/false/null verdict → fills the QC column. ### Clear (clear) Wipe categories and assignments. ## Sub-options inside the dialog: ### Broad / Detailed / Granular Detail level for new categories. - Broad = major themes - Detailed = Detailed themes - Granular = very specific themes - All / Uncoded = Which rows to apply to: every response, or only the ones not yet coded. - Other code = Catch-all bucket. Stored as reformat. $else. Label is editable in the dialog. - Generate higher-level net categories = Ask the AI to also produce nets grouping multiple codes. - Hint = Free-text instruction passed to the AI prompt. ## Recode (Advanced) Terms ### Recode (Advanced) It is a Protobi tool that allows users to manually or automatically manage the coding of open-end responses. It is the workspace within which Protobi AI Autocode operates. ### Unapply To remove a code tag from responses without deleting the code itself from the codeframe. The code remains available for future use. ### Delete (a code) To permanently remove a code from the codeframe entirely, including all tags associated with it. ### Reassign To move a response from one code category to another, correcting or refining how it has been tagged. ### Create Code Manually The ability to add a new code to the codeframe by hand, outside of the AI process, for cases where the AI has not captured a specific theme. ### Edit (a code) To modify the label or description of an existing code to better match your terminology or reporting needs. ### Protobi AI Helper An AI-powered assistant embedded into Protobi that helps users navigate the platform, answer project related questions, and complete tasks more efficiently. ### Prompt A question or instruction entered by the user to interact with the Protobi AI Helper. ### Context The information the AI Helper uses to understand and respond to a user's question, including the current page, project, or element being viewed. ### Temporary upload File uploaded directly to the Anthropic Files API for a thread that claude will reconsider for every query in that response. ### Suggestion A recommended action or answer provided by the AI Helper in response to a user prompt.
