Protobi has features that help you analyze and display text verbatims, including one of our more recent additions, the "Verbatim" chartType. When you crosstab this chart it allows you to see the coded text verbatims and the raw open-ends that belong under each code.

## Set chartType as "Verbatim"

This chartType is not yet available through the [chartType dialog](/charts/charttypes). To change an element's chartType to "Verbatim", go to the [context menu](http://help.protobi.com/newusers/basic-navigation-in-protobi#Context%20menu-8) and choose "Edit JSON...".  From the JSON editor, set the attribute "chartType": "Verbatim".

The Verbatim chartType allows you to see full responses, without specifying the "wrap" option. By default, the chart also uses a larger font size than the standard Protobi chart.

## Crosstab with the Verbatim chart

The Verbatim chart is particularly useful when you want to analyze open-end questions with crosstabs.

### Practical application

The Verbatim chartTye is particularly useful for visualizing coded text verbatim and the raw open-ends that belong under each code. Say you have a raw version of an open-end question (e.g. Q7), and a coded version (e.g. Q7 Text Coding). You might want to see each raw open-end displayed under its corresponding code(s). You can drag the coded element over to the Verbatim chart as a crosstab banner to do just that.

The result is a grid-like structure where the coded values from the crosstab banner are columns, and raw open-end responses are organized below each code. If you have a raw open-end that was assigned multiple codes, you will see it under multiple columns.

## Resize the Verbatim chart

Select the element (header will turn blue), and drag the blue box in the bottom right corner to resize the chart. You can drag to the right to expand width, and down to expand the height of the chart. The chart is vertically scrollable, so you don't have to expand height but will likely need to expand width to see all codes.
